Markets are livelihoods

April 28, 2017

Today Julia is leading a workshop with market vendors. As a result of the last meeting funding was found for canopies, chairs and tables. The market here is, in fact, only an open stretch of grass on the beach front, so sellers were sitting in full sun on the ground all day.
Looking at climate change effects and being prepared for extremes of weather also results in being safer and more comfortable!
The improvements have also meant more customers and more vendors, this means a better livelihood for many families as their sole income is from sale of produce.
As I speak, the group is getting enthusiastic about yet more potential improvements especially as severe weather events, like cyclone Winston last year, seem to be increasing.
