We wait arriving boat

6 pm Sunday we wait outside the harbour. Marta, Revd Gabriella with others from Mediterranean Hope have taken water and supplies inside. Emily + Mike have been able to join them. There are many policemen. A Customs helicopter circles noisily overhead. We see why our friends oppose the militarization.
They are there to offer a human face of welcome and hospitality. What is the Europe we want to be? Rough military, high walls, no one allowed to see? Or the hospitality islanders gave October 3rd 2013 coming out in the night to pull people out of the sea and take them into their homes?
Francesco and Alberto tell us the boat has come from Tunisia. Italy has an agreement with them so will be in the category Migrant not Refugee so they will be deported straight away.
The boat comes round the point and speeds into the harbour. Emily and Mike will tel us what happens…
